When I heard that Glee was doing a Michael Jackson tribute episode, the first thought that immediately sprung to my mind was “Kevin McHale is the King of MJ covers - they better give him something good to do!”
My wish was granted in the form of this remake of Michael and Janet Jackson’s music video for “Scream”. Frustrated by constantly being beat down by their rivals, Artie (McHale) and Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) let out their angst and frustration in this futuristic dream sequence. While rocking out to this epic track, the guys are able to show off their dance moves and look cool while doing so (who knew that Harry could pull off the eyeliner so well?). “Scream” is one of the most daring, dynamic, and AWESOME performances that Glee has ever done.
With Glee, I’ve always felt like we never really got to really see who these characters are beyond their witty (most times cruel) comebacks and romantic entanglements. So I’m really happy to get more insight about these kids and their aspirations - like how Mike is planning on becoming a dance instructor, how Tina dreams of becoming a performer (which her parents love and support her for), how Artie has discovered his talent in directing, how Quinn is thinking about pursuing Drama, and of course, Rachel and Kurt’s application to that NYADA Arts School.
I’d love to hear more about what the other New Directions members want to pursue. I can see Santana and Mercedes wanting to become recording artists. Brittany would make a great television personality/host of some sort. Maybe Finn and Puck will join forces to start a band?
